Blackjack Beginner Strategy: Hand Signals
Players who have learned to play blackjack online may sit down at a table in a physical casino and realize they don’t know the proper hand signals to indicate their desired action. Memorizing the signals before heading out to test your skills at a casino will make for a smoother transition from digital to physical blackjack.
Fortunately, hand signals are pretty universal, but there are some differences between hand-held blackjack and hands-off blackjack.
|Action||Hands Off (Face-Up Cards)||Hand-Held (Face-Down Cards)|
|Stand||Wave hand horizontally as if to say “no.”||Tuck cards under the chips you bet.|
|Hit||Tap table with finger.||Gently scrape cards against the felt.|
|Split||Place second wager beside the original bet; say split or hold up two fingers.||Place cards face-up on the board. Place second wager on the board; say split or hold up two fingers.|
|Double||Place stack of chips equal to original wager on the board; say double down.||Put cards face-up on the board, and place stack of chips equal to original wager on the board. Say double down.|
|Surrender||Drag your index finger in a horizontal line behind the chips you wagered.||Place your cards on the felt, face-up, and drag your index finger in a horizontal line behind the chips you wagered.|
